THE APPROACH

What is muscle imbalance? Muscle imbalance is a functional, dynamic condition—not a medical diagnosis—in which certain muscles become “locked” in a specific position, preventing muscle groups from working together in optimal synchronization. This can develop as a result of physical stress, injury, pain, or habitual movement patterns. Sometimes, even after the original cause has resolved, the body remains in a protective state. Changes in muscle length around a joint can alter movement mechanics and may contribute to pain or referred symptoms through muscle and fascial trigger points or pressure on nerves and blood vessels.

What happens during treatment? Every session begins with an assessment of pelvic alignment and an evaluation of your movement patterns. When needed, I also assess joint mobility, muscle function, and other relevant findings. The goal is to understand why your body moves the way it does—not just where it hurts. Based on the assessment, treatment may include hands-on therapy, muscle balancing, movement retraining, and personalized recommendations to help improve movement quality and allow your body to handle physical loads more efficiently.

Is this treatment right for me? If your body isn’t moving the way you’d like, if you’re experiencing pain, movement limitations, recurring injuries, or simply want to improve the quality of your movement, this approach may be right for you. If you’ve tried other treatments that only provided temporary relief, or if the problem keeps returning, it may be worth exploring whether muscle imbalance is part of the picture. The goal isn’t only to help you feel better—it’s to help you better understand your body, improve the quality of your movement, and give your body the conditions it needs to cope with everyday and athletic demands.

Can I come if I already have an injury? Yes. During the assessment, we’ll determine whether your symptoms are primarily related to the injury itself, to muscle imbalance that developed because of it, or to a combination of both. Your treatment plan will be tailored accordingly.

of both. Your treatment plan will be tailored accordingly. Can I come even if I’m not in pain? Absolutely. Many people come to improve movement quality, return to activity after an injury, reduce unnecessary physical stress on their bodies, or simply better understand how their body moves. Even without pain, muscle imbalance can influence movement quality and the way your body manages physical loads.

What if I’ve already tried other treatments? Yes. Many people who come to see me have already tried various forms of treatment. Manual therapy, strengthening, and stretching can all be valuable. However, when muscle imbalance is present, restoring balance between muscle groups often creates the foundation for better coordination. Once that foundation is in place, strengthening and other treatments are often more effective and tend to produce longer-lasting results.

THE TREATMENT

How many sessions will I need? There isn’t a fixed number. It depends on your condition, how long it’s been present, and your goals. After your first assessment and treatment, we’ll have a much clearer idea of the best plan moving forward. The goal is never to keep you in treatment longer than necessary, but to help improve the quality of your movement.

How long is each session? Each session lasts approximately one hour and includes an assessment, muscle balancing treatment, and personalized recommendations.

Will I receive exercises or home instructions? When appropriate, yes. That doesn’t always mean adding new exercises. Often, refining the way you perform movements or exercises you’re already doing is enough. Recommendations are always tailored to your individual needs.

Does the treatment hurt? Sometimes. Some muscles remain in a protective state and may be more sensitive. Treatment is always adapted to what your body can tolerate. The goal is not to create pain, but to restore muscle balance and improve movement quality.

Can I exercise after treatment? In most cases, yes. The recommendation depends on your condition, your treatment goals, and your activity. Sometimes no changes are needed, while in other cases temporary modifications are recommended. You’ll receive personalized guidance at the end of your session.
